Kids, Dogs, chickens, Birds, and exhaustion…

I spent the day watching my friends kids ages 2 and 7 months. For the purpose of this post we will call the 2-year-old little girl “L” and the 7 months old boy “M”. I was watching them so their mom and dad could get some things done. We started out the day collecting eggs (“L” then spent the day telling anyone who would listen “we got 5 eggs then I broke one, but it was an accident so it’s ok”).

Then we had play time inside and a little outside with the chickens until it got too cold and “M” got sleepy. “L” decided she would sit with Chase and keep him company while she waited for “M” to wake up.

He was having a nice nap untill Baxter and Chase decided to protect the house from a man running by and their barking woke him up. “L” and I were making a craft and “M” joined us untill we were though trying to eat all the craft material “L” was trying to use. We had some lunch and then “L” decided it was her nap time. It took a little while for her to go to sleep, but “M” was out like a light. I used this time to do laundry and clean the mirrors in the house.

The little spot of blue is "M" curled up asleep at his sisters feet (he had plenty of room it just doesn't look like it from this angle)

After a 3 hour nap for “M” and closer to a 2 hour nap for “L” my husband was home from work. When the kids woke up my husband let “L” help him fill the bird feeders and feed the chickens.

We then spent some time outside enjoying the sun that finally decided to come out and then it was inside to start dinner. “L” loves to help in the kitchen and is actually good for a 2-year-old.

Then their mom and dad came by for dinner (they brought the main course for dinner) and took “L” and “M” home.

It’s kind of quiet around the house without them here now. It makes me think of the day when my husband and I will be blessed with kids and wishful for these quiet nights… the only sounds are the frogs, crickets, dogs snoring, and the TV in the background. I know I will sleep well tonight.

I hope you all had as good of a day as I did and got a lot done. Anything special happen in your life today? I wish you all many blessings in the coming week.

Barn of the day and this day…

Another barn we found on our trip… I am currently with the kiddos I am watching for my friend and will post more on the adventures of the kiddos and dogs later. The chickens are in the yard and we have a couple more chickens laying now. The eggs are delicious 🙂

Unique view…

So I thought I would talk today about encouraging a unique view to life. We are all different and have different views, likes, dislikes, wants, needs, etc.I thought with the weekend coming up we could all think of something unique to do that would be out of the ordinary from what we usually do or what someone else would usually do. This weekend I am watching my friends children (the one is the adorable child I featured a couple of days ago). Since they don’t live here and are moving close soon while their mom and dad house search the kiddos and I will play. Speaking of unique things to do… I thought I would share my view on some flowers I have found and wanted a unique view on… I hope you enjoy 🙂

I also think seeing things from a different view can help us and our children learn that if you look below the surface of things there is beauty. Is there something you learned by taking a different view on it? If so please share. Have a beautiful weekend no matter what you do 🙂

ATV’s and outdoors

I wanted to share something tonight I feel strongly about. We as humans benefit from being outdoors. It helps with mood, energy, spirit, and health. Kids especially need to be outdoors and play. It helps them with mood, energy, creativity, imagination play, social skills building, self-esteem building, and so much more.

I thought I would share with you one of my husbands and my favorite outdoor activities (as we have many). On our one year anniversary (many moons ago now it feels like) we decided to do an outdoors trip which included riding ATV’s through the mountains at an ATV park in Pennsylvania. We had a great time and always enjoy riding ATV’s.

This is me on an ATV in PA.

There were all sorts of trails to ride on from easy to super hard and we enjoyed most of the light to moderate trails (and a couple of the harder ones) as we felt since we don’t get to ride that often on trails like this it would be safest. It had been raining all day and we ended up covered from head to toe in mud (you may not be able to see it here, but we were). Even in the rain we had a blast and built memories that will last a long time.

This is my husband on the ATV.

This is another thing I love about the outdoors, the memories you can make. I hope you have outdoor plans for this weekend if your weather is nice. Even if it rains the puddles can be fun to jump in especially if you have little one… or even a pup or two 😉

Do you or you families have favorite outdoor activities? If so please share them with me 🙂

Happy Day :)

The boys wanted to say Happy Thursday 🙂

The chickens tried to escape the coop this morning as the wind caught their door and gave them an escape route… but we corralled them all and they are now back in the safety of their run.

Us humans are off to work 🙂

Save the Trees… (and my bird feeders)

Today started out cold…

Then it rained…

Then it got really nice…

After it got nice outside my husband and I finally finished the new laying house for the girls it is now installed and safe (I forgot to take pictures, I will try to later). I then took some time taking pictures around the property. Here is what I found…

In the back yard our cherry tree was flowering…

The front yard was full of other pretty trees…

I think this is our pear tree
I forgot what this bush/tree is called, I just love the yellow flowers. Does anyone know what it is called?

I then found more tulips and daffodils were blooming…

Red Tulip in our yard (I put a pink one under my photos menu)

The funny part of the day is the squirrel who is my husbands arch nemesis came out to tease my husband once again…

My husband keeps chasing him off and he comes back. I try to tell my husband it is useless to chase him, but the scene happens again and again… quite to my amusement 🙂

What are your favorite trees in your yard?

Barn of the day…

Barn of the day...

I found this barn when we were in Nebraska. If you haven’t figured out from my blog yet… Yes I love old barns… and chickens… and my dogs….

I hope you had a good day!

A day for the birds…

Today is sunny and bright… the flowers survived the winds and the chickens are out in the yard looking for food.

The only problem is we were under a freeze warning last night and it is COLD today… Hopefully it will warm up so the dogs will go out and play. It would be a nice day to bundle up and go for a walk and see what new things are growing or blooming though.

I will be off to work in a little while…Do any of you have any fun plans for the day indoors or out?

A visitor to our little farm…

Today we had visitors to our little part of the earth. Our friend and my husbands second cousin came over with her two kids. Her daughter loves our dogs and chickens and was so excited to see them.

She loves to pet them

She especially loved to feed them…

We feed the chickens.

She also wanted to play in the yard and was curious about the noises from the back field.

It was very windy today.

She was telling the dogs not to bother the chickens.

The dogs love having kids over so much they followed her where ever she goes…

Chase won't let her far from his sight.

Baxter shares a kiss.

We enjoyed our visitors today… I know the dogs and chickens did 🙂

Chicken coop, dogs, and life…

Today was the first nice day I had to be outside and work. The chicken house got a cleaning and I finished the new boxes for “the girls” (my Dad was helpful in this process as he had a lot of good ideas). “The Girls” ran around like crazy enjoying the bugs and other goodies that they could get now that the rain had stopped and the ground was still soft. The dogs and the chickens continue to learn how to share the yard space, but are doing very well so far…

Baxter decided to stand guard over the flock today (is a bunch of chickens a flock?)

The best news of the day is we got our first two

eggs with double yolks.

Yummy… they were delicious.

I also did some gardening and planted things that could go in the ground now. I finished putting seed in their pots to start growing to go in the ground later.

The birds were also out again and enjoying the bird feeders.

I couldn't get close enough without scaring this cardinal off

I also noticed out tulips had started to bloom and they are such a pretty red.

It was such a nice day… I hope it was for you too.

I wanted to thank all my new (and other) followers and anyone who has liked or left a comment. I really appreciate it as today has been my best day for traffic to my site yet 🙂 I hope you all have a blessed week.
