Summer is coming to an end… you would never know that by the heat the last couple of days. Today was so hot and humid that even the rain didn’t help… it only made it more humid. All these weather changes have upset my head and it let me know with a nice headache tuned migraine today. The pups have enjoyed being inside and out of the heat. The other day when it was a little cooler we were out for a walk and they let me get their photo in front some black eyed susan’s we found. They are such good sports humoring their mom 😉 I just love my boys 🙂

I am hoping this year I have enough to last all winter… I hate taking out the last jar too early 😦 In the garden, I still have tomatoes, peppers, and a few green beans growing, so I hope to keep stocking my freezer and caning shelves 🙂

Keeping chickens is a big job. Much of the time you are learning new things about chicken keeping and the rest of the time it is maintaining of food, water, health, etc. Along this process you learn a lot and have a lot of fun.
Here are ten things I have learned so far about raising chickens:
1. The more you handle them as young chicks, while they are still in the heat lamp box, it will make your chickens easier to catch, better tempered, and just easier to work with should you need to if they get sick, hurt, etc.

It is already half way though the week and I don’t know where the time went. Baxter and Chase are missing their friend, but have adjusted back to their routine.
We let them spend some extra time outside running today as it was so nice. The weather was just beautiful and made you not want the day to end. After I got off work I was able to enjoy the beautiful sun and breeze with the pups 🙂 I could see at times the pups checked the drive way when they heard a car going by slowly… maybe seeing if their friend was back. Don’t worry Baxter and Chase…He will be back and we are going to visit him next year 🙂

We had a great weekend at our place. Hubby’s sister and her family came to visit. This included her hubby, two boys, and their dog Manny a 7 year old schnauzer. We were a little concerned that our dogs would have the same issues they had with my uncles dog, but this time they quickly became the best of friends…
It was fun to see them play, run in the yard, and just figure out their order. The family is here until tomorrow and we will miss having them when they go. I know the dogs will miss Manny. I have a bunch of photos of the pups over the weekend and will share more with you this week as well as some more photos of our trip to the State Fair. Hope you are having a good Labor Day weekend if you are in the USA. (even if you aren’t you can celebrate with us) 😉
