Merry Christmas Eve everyone  🙂

Oh Christmas Tree… O Christmas Tree…

How lovely are your branches. Without fail every year since hubby and I got married (and when I was a child) we have gone to get our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. This year was the same and the last few years my mom and step-dad have gone with us… which was great. We got to the tree farm about an hour before dark because we had been preparing the house for the tree and doing a little shopping earlier in the day.

We looked and looked and again found another “perfect” Christmas tree… we cut it down and my step-father volunteered to pull it back for us…Bob tree
Mom and hubby helped to make sure it didn’t fall off the cart we were using…Tree 3 pull
We always go to a local farm to cut down our tree. We like to support our local business. It has little bridges, cut outs, etc all over that make it a great time…Tree cutout

It was a great way to end a hunt for the “perfect” tree 🙂

Late Thanksgiving

I was thinking today I hadn’t posted about our Thanksgiving Day. This year was a little unusual as far as the food. We made no dish as usual and changed many. I figured since it was just my mom, step-father, hubby, and I then why not change it up. We did all gluten free, dairy free, and low sugar dishes (my step-father has to watch his sugar). So for the main dish my step-father deep fried us a turkey. Chase helped by being the watcher…

My step-father got the oil hot then started to lower the turkey in very slowly…Bob turkey

Then it was all the way into the hot oil to cook for 45mins-1hr….Bob turkey 2

The chickens even came out front to see what we were up to…Chkns

After which hubby was home from work and helped my mom and stepfather check to see if the turkey was done…

He was then able to help us get the turkey out…

Baxter was helpful in licking the excess grease off the drive way 😉 …Baxter lick

After which we took it inside and put it on the platter…ta dah…

The side dishes went on the table. They included low sugar cranberry sauce, gluten-free stuffing (with many veggies like carrots, celery, onion, garlic, peppers, etc.), roasted Brussels-sprouts with butternut squash and shallots, sautĂ©ed green beans with almonds…

And for dessert blueberry pie toped with chicken cut outs…Pie

Overall it was a great meal and since we didn’t make a lot of anything the leftovers were gone within a couple days. I hope you had a happy and blessed Thanksgiving day and are looking forward to a Christmas meal with family. 🙂

Winter Wonderland

We woke up and nothing… no snow, no ice, nothing they predicted. About 9 AM I looked out the window and there was the snow. We made it to church in the snow and when we got out it was covering everything. Winter was showing itself. By the time we got home it was a winter wonderland.Baxter snow After getting home we got the chickens settled in their coop as they were hiding in there from the snow. (I don’t blame them) Hubby had to do some shoveling to get the coop door closed with the chicks safe inside. Lorne shoveling We let the dogs play in the snow. Baxter and ChaseBax and Chase snowChase just loves the snow and went running all around the chicken area. Chase snowWe then came in to have some warm soup, hot tea, and to relax.

The snow is still coming down but slowing off for the time being. I don’t mind the snow since we are home snuggled in for the next couple of days. Any of you getting any of this winter storm?

We prepared for the pending ice and snow storm predicted for our area today after Baxter had his end of the year Therapy Dog visit to the library. It was so cold with the wind and the dogs were out trying to help us. Once we got back inside the pups were ready for dinner and to find a warm spot…Chase snuggled

They have their Christmas blankets to snuggle under…Baxter snuggled

Right now they are asleep snug and warm. I want to let those who have already been affected by this storm our prayers have been with you. I hope the storm will decrease in the ice factor before it gets to us. Luckily, I don’t have to work again until Tuesday so we are ready with wood for the fire, generator with extra gas, food that can be heated easily by the wood stove, etc. It will also give me time to finish wrapping Christmas presents and do my Christmas cards. So if you are affected by this storm snuggle up and stay warm. Have a happy week to come 🙂
