My online friend, Midwest Mary (http://midwestmary.com/) asked me to continue a series on writing that is being passed from one writer to another. There are four basic questions you may find of interest if you are a writer or interested in the writing process.
Here are the questions and my answers:
1. What are you working on?
Right now I am taking a break from writing projects. I have started a couple children’s books about my dogs, but got writers block and life got very busy.
So for now I mostly work on this blog 🙂
2. What makes your work different from others’ work in the same genre?
Mine is from a very personal aspect, I write about my life, my animals, and what I love. Each persons life is unique in its own way so no ones blog is exactly like mine 😉
3. Why do you write what you do?
I really enjoy writing about things that happen in my life, get input from other’s, and start a conversation if I can. I originally started writing blog to keep a record of the days in mine and hubbys life for our kids. It was also to share with other’s what I love about my life, share my struggles (so other’s may not feel so alone in theirs), and especially share my faith in God. The children’s books I started as I love my dog a lot (if you follow my blog you know how much 😉 ) and I wanted to share their story in a lesson like way that kids can learn from.
4. How does your writing process work?
Two different ways usually for my blog…. the first is I take pictures of what hubby, the dogs, our other animals, etc. do and then write about them. The second is I think of something I want to write about and do the writing then find a photo to go with it.
For the children’s books, I just keep tabs on what the dogs do and then try to find a way to make it into a lesson to write about.
And now I tag two other writers that I choose to pass these questions to that I want to know more about and think you also will find of interest:
The first is my favorite blog and my close blogging friend Ann at http://feedyardfoodie.wordpress.com/ Since Hubby and I have such an interest in raising animals and good animal care, Ann’s posts always speak to me as well as educate me 🙂
The second is Mag’s Corner http://magscorner.wordpress.com/ I just love her photos, thoughts, and animals she rescues too (especially the pups 😉 )
I wouldn’t mind some advice if you are up for sharing. My old way of “blogging” was simply to tell my story via email. The responses were very gratifying, much like Facebook. Everyone felt comfortable to give a wisecrack or to just tell me that they enjoyed reading. Once I began the blog, although the readership is larger, I now get very few responses. Family members tell me they prefer the old way (via email). Hmmm. Am I doing something wrong?
Every ones blog has a different style and “flavor” to it. I used to write a lot of different kinds of posts and found out which ones worked best and received the most likes or comments. I still do the other’s for myself, but a lot I do is reader driven. If your family prefers the old way and you liked it go back to that or figure out how to incorporate the old way into your blog. Hope that helps. 🙂
Thanks! Blogging is a another learning experience for sure. Did I respond to your questions in the manner you wanted? I liked the part where you shared your favorite blogs.
Blogging is a learning experience like this post you responded to…. for questions like this one blogger passes it to one other blogger (or two) and then those are the people he/she nominates to answer the questions. Other bloggers may ask general questions that anyone can answer, but for something like this where someone is nominated (the part where I shared my favorite blogs) then the questions are just for them or the people they nominate, not a general response.
I wish you the best with your blogging adventures. 🙂
Got it. Thanks!
No problem… I know learning things about blogging can be confusing at times 🙂
Thank you, Kim! Those are excellent questions — what a great idea. I will go to work 🙂
I think of you and your animal family when I do our “chicken chores” for Ashley Grace. I can’t believe how quickly they have gotten so big! They are finally going out of the coop and exploring the run a bit. Ashley Grace gets home on Saturday (after being gone for three weeks) and she isn’t going to believe how they have changed. Megan and I have been sending her pictures and videos of the chicks but it’s not the same…
I am looking forward to having my family all home again. It has been hard to have AG gone.
I love your answers to the writing questions. You have given me something to think about!
Best,
Anne
Ya, they are interesting questions. I am glad you enjoyed my answers. When they were passed to me I didn’t know how to respond and thought a lot about it because I guess I never considered myself a real writer, but I guess I am. I hope you enjoy writing about them as I also consider you a great writer and you are so good at it 🙂 I am happy to pass the questions along to you I think people will really enjoy your answers 🙂
I am sure Ashley Grace will be so surprised when she gets back to her “ladies”. Chicks grow and change so much in the first few months. I am happy you and Megan have been sending her photos that keeps her excited about them I am sure. How is her camp thing going? I hope she is having fun 🙂 I am sure though it will be very nice once she is home again.
Blessings to you and the family I will keep AG in my prayers for fun and a safe trip back home 🙂
