Rain and Chicks

Hello All

Hope everyone is having a great week and have good plans for the weekend ahead. We have been dealing with a lot of rain this week, but trying to get the babies out in between the rain…

4 babies

They just love getting out and are growing so fast. Enjoying having these babies in the house ๐Ÿ™‚ย  (on a sad note we lost one of our 2nd batch girls the buffs… but moving forward with the new little ones ). Sending out sunshine and blessings your way!

Happy Easter 2017!

Hello…light chick

Wanted to wish you all Happy Easter!

Christย has risen and even our baby chicks are celebrating this beautiful day. Hope your Easter was blessed.

Chick Adventures

The baby chicks have been getting out more now that it is warm enough and are learning many new things. Sometimes they learn together…

And other times one or two will get brave and venture a little further solo before running back to the group…

But they are never to far from me yet…

Because Chase will herd them back if they do go to far…

They are learning how to peck at the ground for food…

And how to pose for the camera…

It’s a fun time with them and will put you in a good mood watching them learn to be chickens ๐Ÿ™‚

Growing babies

Its been a fun experience so far with these girls. Each batch of chicks we have had has been slightly different in the way they interact with us, interact with each other, and depending the season how much they get out and how early.

4 baby

These girls like to pair up a lot. But which two are together usually depends on situation and who is doing what. I think this also has to do with number… there are only four of them. Before nowย the fewest we have had together is 8 and usually get 10 at a time.

2 chicks

Each is starting to get their own personality and each has her own coloring which makes for a pretty batch of girls. One is very light in color… (she is always primping)

light girl

Another more medium brown… (she likes to sleep and is passive with the others)

The last Ameraucana is dark brown and black mostly in color… (she is the leader)

And the other girl is our brown egg layer so she is all back with little spots of white… (she is all over the place and likes to be second in domination)

black girl

Over all they are a fun bunch ๐Ÿ™‚

Chase and Chicks

The baby chicks went out to play again today as it was warm and nice enough. Chase came out too as he has been really good with them inside, so we watched him around them outdoors. He is used to baby chicks as this isn’t our first rodeo with chicks, but we always watch the boys with them anyways.

Today Chase showed he is the protector of them as he is of the other girls.

At first the chicks weren’t sure of this big creature walking around them. But soon made friends with Chase and used him for a little cover…

Chase was very protective of them even when they went near hubby, he was still right there watching them.

It was a cute site to behold and the baby’s had so much fun outside you could tell.

But eventually they got a little chilly so it was back inside to get warm under the heat lamp and take a nap.

Guess What…

We got new baby chicks… (yes mom we did ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

4 baby chicks

It wasn’t planned really as we thought we were done for a while with chickens, but these girls are addictive. A friend of ours at church was getting some and offered to add to his order because he was getting a kind I always wanted… Ameraucana ‘s ๐Ÿ™‚

3 americanas

So meet our three girls the Ameraucana triplets…

And here is our other new girl as we decided to go ahead and add a new brown egg layer. So here is our first Barred Rock baby…

bard rock

They are sweet birds and less skittish then the last couple of batches we got. So we are excited to add to our flock.

If you think chickens are not addictive… I beg to differ ๐Ÿ˜‰ The proof is above ๐Ÿ™‚

Snow Dogs on the Hunt

Our boys love to play in the snow especially when you are out with them. They love to run in any wide open space and find new places to explore.

Baxter snow

Our Chase is pretty intrigued when he is around any barn and is always trying to sniff out the critters. He is usually on high alert during these times not wanting to miss a thing.

The have enjoyed the snow now that it isn’t so cold and windy, yet now the snow is almost gone and the grass is showing, so there probably won’t be much snow for them to play in tomorrow. That’s okay because warmer weather means more hiking and walking on trails. Do you have any favorite trails or hiking spots near you that you or you and your pups like to go?

Snow to spring and back again …

That last eastern snow storm got usย  Monday night into Tuesday.

sky snow

Since we knew it was coming our way we did prep work around our place. Secured the chickens and got a couple flock blocks set up plus extra water, covered up the tractors, moved the generator, and filled up the bird feeders as we like to provide a spot for the birds in the snow to get food.

bird feeder

There were quite a few birds that showed up…

bird eating

All three boys liked watching the birds, the two pups from the door and little Grayson from the window…

Bax n chase

We also enjoy watching them. You see a hierarchy just like you do with the chickens… interesting to watch.

birds

I also like to see the little birds find ways to get to the good food and fool the bigger birds.

bird little

Provides some good entertainment on a snowy day.

If you got this snow I hope you stayed safe and warm. I was lucky this time, hubby did the shoveling and snow blowing and I got to be inside cooking and baking. I think I got the better part of the deal ๐Ÿ˜‰

Garden time… almost

This past week hubby and I were pretty busy. Hubby has been working for weeks to chop up a big tree we cut down for fire wood. We are trying to clean up the yard, get things shaped up in the chicken coop, planted a few flowers that have needed to be put in the ground for a while, and tilled the garden.

chickens-garden

The chickens have been kept out of the garden all winter and they were anxious to get in and peck around.

chickens-garden2

They seemed to have a blast digging in the newly tilled dirt…

chickens-garden3

And they helped me by turning and moving the dirt all around…Plus it is a hoot and a half to watch them freak out over the new space…

chickens-garden4

Baxter wasn’t too impressed as he just laid around, half watching the chickens freak out, and mostly sleeping in the warm sun. (It was nice that day.)

baxter

I can’t wait to put seeds into the ground and see them come up. Until then there is hay on the garden to keep the weeds from coming back that I worked so hard to pull and “weed out” ๐Ÿ˜‰ . Hope you have a great weekend!

Good morning…wake up

This is what I wake up to many mornings….

grayson-wake

Good morning mommy wake up! Then my other boys are by the bed waiting for their turn for a pat. Not that I mind, it is a pretty cute face toย  wake up to.ย But sometimes I get him too…

grayson-wakie

Good afternoon Grayson wake up… mommy is home ๐Ÿ˜‰ (And yes that is the dogs bed that we often find Grayson sleeping in. Don’t worry the boys have many beds and usually only use this one at night or when I am in the room.) Hope your having a good week ๐Ÿ™‚
