The Safari Park

While we were on our trip late May early June we did a lot of different things. I went zip lining for the first time with my nephew who graduated (Soooooo fun I would totally do it over and over again), went to different places I had never been before (like Branson), and got to go on other adventures including going though a Safari Park in Arkansas. It was quite fun and we got to see some animals we hadn’t before.

Ever seen one of these?

Dogs pumpkins october 2015

Today we finally got time and went to a local pumpkin farm to get out pumpkins. It was a fun time and now we are looking more fall at our place. Hope your fall is going well. 🙂

Chicken Flowers

Over the weekend hubby and I decided to have a yard sale. Our neighbor down the road decided to join us with some of her stuff. After things were cleaned up and the remainder of our stuff was donated and my neighbor had me come up to her place and she gave me some of her zinnia flowers and she gave me this really cool chicken pitcher. So I put them together for this great flower arrangement 🙂

This week is back to work after a few days of a “staycation” where hubby and I got a lot done. Hope you are having a great start to your week 🙂

Louisville Zoo…

While on our trip we did a lot of driving to check out land and new places. We also had a day of fun and went to Louisville to the Sluggers Museum and the zoo. I took a lot of photos at the zoo and thought I would share some with you today 🙂

There were tigers…

And Lions…

And polar bears… oh my… and this particular polar bear liked to put on a show for the crowd by jumping off a rock. Only this polar bear didn’t just climb on the rock and jump… he would act like he was going to jump then not… once… twice…

Then on the third time he would finally jump…

The rhino’s were up for some good photos…

Ant then these eagles were in an open areas. I guess they couldn’t fly anymore so there was no concern of them escaping so they didn’t need a cage…

It was a nice zoo and a beautiful day to be at the zoo 🙂

Whites Ferry

Have you ever been on a cable operated ferry… if you have been to Whites Ferry then you have 🙂OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A few weeks back my mom, step-father, and I went on this neat little ferry in Maryland.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It starts out on one side of the water…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The cars load up… I think it holds 15 cars at a time…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It then starts across towards you…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It gets closer and closer…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You can really start to see the cable the closer it comes…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The cable pulling the ferry through the water is interesting to watch…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You see the cable tightening as the ferry comes closer…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then the ferry is almost on your side…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then all the cars load up…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And you start back the other way…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You get a nice 2-3 minute ride…

New roosts and boxes

The chickens should be happy now… we spent the whole weekend building them new laying boxes and perches. My mom and step-father came up to help us. It was a bigger job then I thought, but it is done now and the girls now just need to get used to it 🙂 They now have 9 new boxes and 3 old ones as well as 7 new perches… The old girls (Rhode Islands) hutches were falling apart. They were getting old so they needed to be replaced. They kept a close eye on us while we worked…RhodeThey were not too happy to give up their old ways and even got the new buff chicks to help them make a stand in front of their old houses…They were not happy to be made to move… But they moved and let us get on with our work.Girls and HousesThe rain held off each day until we got done and then provided enough rain to get things wet and water my garden. Last night was the girls first night with the new boxes… they didn’t seem to happy and some wouldn’t even go in. After a while we went out and had to pick them up to show them where to roost now. Today one had layed in the new boxes and three others had laid in the new buff girls house we left in as it provides additional space for boxes and the new girls roosts. We needed to build new boxes and perches so all 16 of the girls have space to lay eggs and perch at night. It also makes things easier to clean.

This is the old hutches we had….Old HutchesNow it looks like this…New roosts n boxesWe had a couple girls exploring it today and getting used to the setting. I felt bad as the Rhode Islands basically grew up since 3 months in those hutches, but it was time to get some nicer living for the ladies who give us delicious eggs. (Even if they aren’t the most beautiful things 😉 )New BoxesOnly thing left to do is finish one ladder to the top boxes and add the clear sides panels to the outside of the run. I am happy thing are moving along, the weather is cooperating, and we had good help (thanks Mom and Bob). Tomorrow we hope to get that done along with getting hubbys shop back in working order. In other news we finally got some tomatoes that had turned red and I just had to eat a cherry tomato right off the vine… yum there is nothing like your own garden 🙂

On the Rocks…

We have become a hiking family… whenever we can we hit the trails and explore. The pups are good at getting over the rocks and though tight spaces we have to walk in. We got a new pop up bowel for them to drink out of and our backpack holds enough water for up to a 2 hour hike. They are good company on the trails and sleep better when we get home. I hope the nice weather comes back so we can go hiking some more as we hate to hike when it is too hot as the pups can not enjoy it as much. We are trying to build up so we can tackle this really big hike up ‘old rag mountain’. My husband tackled it when he was younger and says it is a two-hour hike straight up. We will see if we get good enough this year 😉

In case you haven’t noticed…

In case you haven’t noticed I love my dogs. Each spring, summer, and fall I find a new love for them when we get to hike together. They make the trails safer and more fun. Since the weather has stayed nice this week we have hiked and gone to the river for Chase to swim a lot. The dogs have really gotten into hiking and even want to go off trail for some fun (if we would let them).  So here are some photos of the boys on a hike enjoying different views 🙂

Happy hiking this weekend 🙂

Roadside America

Have you ever been to…

It is a cute little Amish roadside place in Pennsylvania with a quaint little roadside shop (my husband loves the shoo fly pie there) and a miniature town museum. The museum I don’t have pictures of but you can check it out at http://www.roadsideamericainc.com/ . We have been to the museum and shop before, but on our trip we went into the shop again as hubby wanted a shoo fly pie as I had not made one in a while. If you are ever in that area it is a cute place to visit. Kids seem to like it 🙂 It reminds me of place my mom, dad, and I use to stop at when I was a kid. I always had so much fun at these random stops  🙂

The top of the Amish shop

Also on this trip we took a little walk and I saw this cool rock formation so I thought I would share.

I hope you all had a fun and happy week and I wish you a blessed week to come 🙂
