State Fair Barn Visit

In September we went to our State Fair. I have gone to the state fair in this state every year since we moved here,  except the year I got married and last year I wasn’t able to either. Instead of mom and dad going with me, now its usually mom, step-dad, and if I’m lucky hubby, if he is not working. They also moved the location of the fair and most people like it, but it just isn’t the same for me. There seems to be a lot less “stuff” and things going on at the fair. I don’t know if it is because agriculture and animals are not as important to people now as they used to be, except to those of us who care for them or those who do the farming and ranching, but it’s just not the same. It may be my own memories throwing it off because as a child the fair was my favorite part of the year, whether I was showing that year, or not. It was just good family time. Where the fair is held now, is the farm where “Secretariat” was born and kept.

This barn above is the barn that famous horse was kept and below is the plaque explaining that…

The stall is nothing special, but it is neat to see.

The state fair is over for the year and I am happy I got to go and hubby got to come as well. Even if it isn’t the same I still look forward to the State Fair every year. I love to watch all the kids and adults ride horses, show cows, and participate in all the competition there. Do you go to the state or local fairs in your state?

Weekend Wishes…

It was a beautiful day here. The sun was out… it wasn’t too warm… and there was a slight breeze. Ideal for animal care and playing with the pups in the yard. I was happy to be off work and outside and enjoying the weather.

I hope you all have a blessed and happy weekend 🙂

Snow… Snow.. Snow… Cold

The snow came down the other day. I was so happy to be inside (not happy to be sick, but grateful I didn’t have to go outside). The neighbors barn was barley visible in the snow.

Our tractors were hard to see as well until the snow slowed down…tractor snow

It was a pretty snow and the coop roof was covered in a matter of hours, but it helped to keep the heat in for the chickens.

The trees were heavy with snow… Tree snow

And the branches were bowing under the weight… heavy tree snow

Everything was covered by the snow. Snow cover

Towards evening the little light we had was going away and the night was taking over.

Dark snow

Since the big snow there have been more flurries. Flurries

But the biggest thing has been the cold. It has been below 0* outside late evenings, night, and early morning. The snow was deep and getting the coop dug out took some effort on hubbys part since I was not in full functioning order.

When the sun finally came out the snow was so pretty and nice to look out upon. Sun Snow

Hope your are safe if you are having this snow and hope it doesn’t prevent you from having blessed weekend. 🙂

Snow to Sun

Two days ago it looked like this…Fence snow

Today it was sunny and looked like this…Red Barn

Funny how it can go from freezing to sunny… not to say it wasn’t freezing even though it was sunny the wind was blowing so hard. I was expecting to come home and find the chickens unable to move and frozen against the fence. They were all moving around when I got home and appeared happy so all was well. I hope the wind goes away. I have a lot to do outside next week. 🙂

Beauty at sunset

It was a nicer day today and the sky at sunset was pretty with all the blues and purples… Sky BarnThe sky is always so pretty over our neighbors barn. I love to look at the clouds moving over the mountains and the fields towards our house. It is neat to see how the cloud move the colors along 🙂 It was a nice reminder that after the rain comes the sun 🙂

I woke up this morning and saw…

Isn’t it lovely? Got a couple of inches total… just enough to make things look pretty and clean 🙂

Barns of Gratitude

While driving hubby and I do a lot fo talking and I do a lot of thinking. As many of you know I love old barns and taking photos of them… on a recent trip I saw this old barn and it was decked out old fashion style for Christmas….

I feel blessed and grateful that there are still places like this for kids to see as I sure appreciate them 🙂

Winter Barn…

One of the roads hubby and I drive on when we just need to get out and drive has this old barn on it. I am not sure what it is about it, but it appeals to my old-time senses. I just can imagine all the crops, animals, people, and season it has seen. What stories it must hold 🙂 It just gives me hope that somewhere there is a farm out there for hubby and I and maybe one day we will be looking at our own barn and thinking of all the memories it holds 🙂

Hot Haze…

The hot weather was back today… The mountains had a haze on them all day. I went to help the elderly couple I clean for and then picked up a few groceries we needed since I was close to town. When I got home I let the hurt chicken out in the yard and did some canning.

I saw this plane come over the house while I was out checking on the hurt chicken.

I am hoping it will cool down soon so I can check on the garden and go for a walk before dark. I will end this post with a photo I took while we were out on a drive last weekend. A neat little farm with an unusual law ornament….

A big truck’s trailer…

It’s interesting what you come across when you least expect it. Hope you had a good start to the weekend… Happy Saturday 🙂

Hiking and Happiness

The weather this week has been beautiful. Even a little shower that lasted only a few minutes was nice.

Considering how hot it has been all summer this weather relief was very appreciated and allowed us to get a lot done outside as well as do some exercising. The boys have loved hiking with us this year as we are going farther, so much so some days they need to stop more than us.

We got a new pack this year so we can carry more water and their collapsible bowel, but they still like to drink from the streams when we come across them. This one park we went to has a beautiful view from the top of one of the trails.

The last two photos were taken from hubbys phone as I forgot my camera and it would have been hard to carry with the climb. I turned the photo of the dogs to sepia filter as I thought it looked neat. They were checking out the mile and a half trail we just walked straight up this mountain. It was a fun hike that we hope will get us in better shape 🙂 Happy Wednesday!
