Who wants some cake?

Happy Sunday Everyone 🙂

Hope your week has started out well and you are refreshed and ready for the week. I don’t know if I have blogged about this yet, but I have started to make cakes for my friends kids and the kids at church. I am trying to perfect my skills and learn new techniques. I have done many cakes including flower cakes….

It’s been fun to figure out the kids likes and use their interests in a cake. They have all been a success so far and I have done many others. Each time I do a cake I figure out how to do it better the next time. I am working each time to perfect my skills. I hope I can keep getting better and keep making kids smile when they see their cakes. It is a joy 🙂

Sunday… Sunday… la la

Hope you are having a blessed and beautiful Sunday. It is a hot and humid day here, but we are getting things done despite this. I have even gotten in some baking including two new loafs of bread, a fresh batch of granola bards, and some scones for this week. The dogs were outside for a while with me and then came in and crashed under the ceiling fans to cool off.

I am hoping to get some more inside chores and organization done now that I am inside for a while hiding from the heat. Makes me grateful this Sunday for AC and fans 😉 I am also grateful for the new visitors that came to our church today. As some of you know hubby and I joined a very small rebuilding church last September and are very active with this church ever since. I play the piano, help with the kiddos, bake for events and Sunday service, and help wherever is needed. Because hubby works he can’t help every Sunday, but shows leadership in other ways like though handyman work, helping at bible studies, and pitching in where he can and is asked to. This weeks project for us is repairing the current church sign as well as sanding and repainting it. The current sign is just basically two old doors hinged together that we can sit outside of the school we use each Sunday. It will be nice to give it a face lift 🙂  We also have church friends who are moving soon so we will be busy helping them pack and move before August 1st. We have a busy week ahead and wish you all a blessed and “cool” week 🙂

Winter Wonderland

We woke up and nothing… no snow, no ice, nothing they predicted. About 9 AM I looked out the window and there was the snow. We made it to church in the snow and when we got out it was covering everything. Winter was showing itself. By the time we got home it was a winter wonderland.Baxter snow After getting home we got the chickens settled in their coop as they were hiding in there from the snow. (I don’t blame them) Hubby had to do some shoveling to get the coop door closed with the chicks safe inside. Lorne shoveling We let the dogs play in the snow. Baxter and ChaseBax and Chase snowChase just loves the snow and went running all around the chicken area. Chase snowWe then came in to have some warm soup, hot tea, and to relax.

The snow is still coming down but slowing off for the time being. I don’t mind the snow since we are home snuggled in for the next couple of days. Any of you getting any of this winter storm?

Sunny Sunday

It is a sunny and finally nice Sunday (despite the wind) 🙂Church

The weather is finally over 40* and the dogs are finally outside for more than five minutes 🙂 They seem to love sunning on the deck to get warm. It is nice to see the sun after so many cloudy, rainy, yucky days. It makes me motivated to get things done. Hope you all get things done and get to relax today. Have a blessed week 🙂

Sadness in the week of kindness…

So this week was supposed to be about kindness and what we can do to show kindness…. But tonight I am full of sadness after the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT shooting. My mind is spinning once again and I am moved to tears after hearing all of those little kids and teachers who lost their lives at the hands of a young 20 year-old person who for an unknown reason took other’s lives in his own hands and felt he had the right to do what he did. I feel sad for the families who lost their child or children. After going through all we have and not being blessed with a child yet, I can not imagine loosing my child… thinking of it makes me cry more. If you know anyone affected by this you are in my prayers and so are the families of those 600-some kids and the staff of that school.

Still as I watch the news and all the special reports on this tragedy… I see kindness in the way people support each other, the way the first responders act/speak/lead… God bless.

Sundays List…

Today I had a long list of things to do and like all lists I only got a few of them done. Each activity I attempted took longer then expected and my migraine did not help. So today’s list has become Sunday’s list. I am going to the early church service tomorrow which will give me some time to do more on my list before hubby gets home and we do some more Christmas shopping (yes I know it is only September, but hubby an I like to have it all done by Thanksgiving and wrapped by the weekend after). I got my jalapeno peppers caned and right after the neighbor brought more (now more to do tomorrow). Piece of advice…. when working with hot peppers of any kind don’t forget your gloves. I did as I was rushing today and I am paying… (if you know how to get the hot sting off your hands let me know… I have tried soap, lemon, milk, sugar, heavy-duty de-greaser hand cleaner, orange).

It was a beautiful day today… perfect temperature, light wind, sunny, clear sky… I kept the windows open all day to air out the house and make things smell fresh. What a lovely day 🙂

Weekend words…

Coleus

This weekend has been a busy one as predicted. During my cleaning this morning for the elderly couple I got a bushel of apples and a bag of pears from their trees. So my next project is canning applesauce, pears, and making jelly from the grapes I peeled and got the seeds out of the other day. I get so excited to try something new with canning (I know I am weird). My venture into canning has been fun so far and I am looking forward to do more 🙂 Tomorrow I am off to church and then the 1st birthday of my friends little boy… I get to take the photos of this blessed event… he is a cutie 🙂

A Sunday Drive…

When I was a little girl my mom, dad, and I would always take Sunday drives. We would go all over the state and sometime to other states if time permitted. Sometimes our Sunday drives would happen on Saturdays if we wanted to drive too far, as usually Sunday we went to church. These are some of my favorite memories from my childhood.

When I met my husband he also had the same experience as a child so we decided to incorporate these “Sunday drives” into our relationship. We felt it was important to have this time and to keep them as part of our family traditions.  We really enjoy them and find it is really a time to connect, talk, and relax.

So today we took one of our drives after he got home from work. We drove into Maryland and I found a lot of photo opportunities. I thought I would share some.

First we went by this little church, I thought the stained glass windows and steeple were very neat.

On one of the back roads we had to put on our brakes rather quickly as a chicken almost ran out in front of us…

Then we found this little park we could walk the dogs along a stream.

Next we found some neat farms, barns, and fence lines.

Some cows were wondering what I doing... I think they thought I was a crazy lady taking pictures of their farm.

On the way home I saw some what looked like wooden crosses along side an old barn. I thought they were neat.

It was a nice day, despite the migraine I had, and I enjoyed the ride.

Do you have any family traditions you have carried over into your family now? Were you able to do any on those today?
