Belated Labor Day…

Sorry this post is late USA, but I spent my Labor day with hubby and the boys hiking and spending good quality time together…

We had one of the best hikes we have had had in a while. Beautiful scenery, not too hard of a hike where we couldn’t talk and enjoy the scenery, but hard enough we got a decent work out. The dogs had a great time and when we stopped to rest they couldn’t stop smiling.

It was a fun and blessed Labor Day… so for give my lateness… Happy Labor Day!

The Safari Park

While we were on our trip late May early June we did a lot of different things. I went zip lining for the first time with my nephew who graduated (Soooooo fun I would totally do it over and over again), went to different places I had never been before (like Branson), and got to go on other adventures including going though a Safari Park in Arkansas. It was quite fun and we got to see some animals we hadn’t before.

Ever seen one of these?

It was cool to drive though and see all the different animals. Like these…

This was only part of our adventure here, there were just so many animals to see… More to come…

On to Arkansas and Razorbacks…

So once the graduation and those festivities were complete we headed to my in-laws in Arkansas. Ok so the drive there was amazing… from the Arch in St. Louis to the beautiful countryside in Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas… I was in heaven. While in Arkansas we did a lot including…. the Wal-Mart museum…

The Daisy BB Gun museum…

The University of Arkansas campus…

And stadium…

The river towards Missouri was beautiful…

As well as a trip to a safari park (more on that later as I have too many pictures to show here). The dogs always enjoying running around new places… they Love running at hubbys sisters in Indiana, but they had a great time running in a new place and Arkansas seemed to have many new smells for them.

Road Trip 2016

So I have been missing for a while… life got busy, I had so much going on, and I had a long road trip to go on with hubby and the pups. Hubbys nephew graduated from high school so we started out going to Indiana… May 2016 306

Then to Arkansas… with other trips to Missouri and Oklahoma. Oh my I loved this road trip because of beautiful scenery and some of the fun things we got to see and do. I have much to post about and I hope I can… but since I said we started in Indiana I have to show you my sister-in-laws new baby kittens.

We got to see them when they were a few days old and they were tiny and sweet. Hubbys nephew did a great job with his valedictorian speech and we are happy for him. Next on to Arkansas and the in-laws.

Helpers

When it is snowy, icy, or windy we check on the chickens a lot as they are usually inside their run. We are making sure they have food, water, and their laying boxes are clean. We also collect the eggs. So when we go outside we have a couple of helpers who go with us. Chase is our biggest helper. He is always up for a walk to the coop, making sure we don’t spill the water when we are taking that out, or that we don’t have any extra treats for him too.

ChasenLorne

Yesterday when we took out the water Chase was right there with us. Baxter on the other hand was content to explore and do his own thing.

Baxter

He prefers to leave the big jobs to Chase and keep the exploring and snow eating for himself. At least he was out there ‘in case’.

Chickens in the Snow

I had a comment about chickens in the snow on my last post that inspired me to share about my snow dare devils. I know most chickens will avoid the snow and not even think about going out in it. I have a couple of chickens who take the risks even in the 3 feet of snow they had to get out…

And take a look around…

Chicken snow

And get stuck…

Chickensnow

Chase saw this one was stuck and decided to help her out…

chasechicken

I guess it freaked out the chicken and she tried to get out of the snow as quick as she could…

Chickensnow2

So we do have a few chickens who will risk frost bite to explore, but usually they go back in quickly and we usually don’t let them out to protect their feet, wattles, and crown. But when they have been cooped up for a day or two we open the door for them to be able to get out if they want as long as it isn’t too cold or windy. But usually only a couple take us up on it. So today while it is still overcast and windy; after this ice and snow they will stay in and stay warm.

What do you do with your chickens in the snow, bad winds, ice, etc.?

More Snow?

Weather man said we may get more snow tonight and tomorrow… we still have snow from the last 3 feet. I know that’s not a lot compared to what some other Midwest states and other places get, but it’s a lot for us. Anyways, the new snow forecast reminded me I promised to share more snow pictures with you from the last snow so here goes…

Saurday

So on Friday the snow started a little after noon and by that evening it looked like this…

Friday 1

And the chicken coop was starting to get buried in…

Friday 2

We woke up Saturday morning to a full fledged wind blowing, sideways snow, cold, wet, and blinding blizzard…

Saturday2

The birds feeders were getting blown around and the drifts had started…

Saturday 1

I worked/shoveled my way to the chicken coop to check on the girls while Hubby decided to try to get out and snow blow the drive way a little incase there was an emergency and so when the snow stopped it wouldn’t be too tall or frozen to snow blow out….

Saturday5

First he had to get out when the wind had started to slow down for a bit and shovel from the front porch to the back. Chase followed him and tried to go down the back steps, but then got stuck. Hubby had to rescue him…

Saturday3

And finally was able to lift him out and back onto the steps…

Saturday4

After we got a little shoveling done and some of the drive cleared out we came inside as the wind picked back up (just to tell you how fast it was coming down by the time hubby got maybe 10 feet, where he had just finished snow blowing was already covered back up with 4+inches of snow and by Sunday had almost been completely filled back up where he had plowed). It was a cold an exhausting few hours outside.

(More on Sunday, Monday, the birds, dogs, and chickens to come.)

Kitten Cuteness

Our kitten is such a joy and FUN! We have had such a good time with him and the dogs are enjoying his craziness too. They like  to watch him skitter all over the house and jump to and fro. What a crazy boy he can be…

kittenbox

Christmas with him was a lot of fun… he added a new level of smiles. His favorite parts were running among the presents, playing with his stocking, checking out his new toys, and chilling on our tree skirt once all the presents were out of the way.

kittentreeskirt

My favorite part of having him is the snuggles. When he sleeps he melts my heart with all his little faces and poses with his little paws. And his purring oh my I just LOVE it… his motor just runs and runs and makes you feel happy 🙂

He is a happy boy and a joyful addition to our family 🙂

If I don’t get to write another post this year I want to wish you all a Happy New Year!

Merry CHRISTmas Eve!

Our family hopes you are with family or friends celebrating this Christmas eve…

treestar

Its a very warm Christmas eve where we are and no hopes of snow only rain… but we still are enjoying celebrating our Lord and Saviors birth.

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

I have been avoiding my blog for a couple weeks because I had a happy surprise and I couldn’t post about yet. Why you may ask?? Because my mom reads my blog and I hadn’t told her yet and I wanted it to be a surprise for her and my step dad as well. So my thankful post this year starts with this… WE GOT A KITTEN!!!!!!

kitten

He is a 3 month old American shorthair and is only 2 1/2lbs. We named him Grayson Gabriel…

kitten and duck

He is so perfect for our little family. It took the dogs a few days to accept him and about a week and a half to get used to him being part of the family… but after 2 weeks we have peace in the house and are having so much FUN!

kitten couch

Hubby and I joked when we were going through infertility treatments that if we didn’t have a baby in 5 years we would get a kitten… over 5 years later the running joke became a reality and here is the kitten…

kitten sunning

Its a little taste of a baby as we get up with him, have learned his different “meows” and what they mean, have to baby him, get him special food, spend extra time with him, comfort him, and oh he is such a snuggle bug… I just love to snuggle with him.

kitten cuddle

And he is so funny. After thanksgiving dinner where he got some special wet kitten food he passed out in the sun. It was so funny 🙂

kitten spread

And he LOVES his new hide out box, but hasn’t quite figured out to get his tushy in to really be hidden 😉

kitten box

I just love to have him snuggled in my arm. He is just so cute so I am sure there will be many posts to come that include him.

I am also thankful this year for my boys and the good big brothers they are being. Chase even shared some thanksgiving goodies with Grayson…

21zkitten and chase

I am thankful my mom and stepdad got to meet Grayson and LOVED him and that hubby and I got to spend a happy thanksgiving day together with my mom and stepdad and all our animals that now total 19 chickens, 2 dogs, and a kitten 🙂
