Garden time… almost

This past week hubby and I were pretty busy. Hubby has been working for weeks to chop up a big tree we cut down for fire wood. We are trying to clean up the yard, get things shaped up in the chicken coop, planted a few flowers that have needed to be put in the ground for a while, and tilled the garden.

The chickens have been kept out of the garden all winter and they were anxious to get in and peck around.

They seemed to have a blast digging in the newly tilled dirt…

And they helped me by turning and moving the dirt all around…Plus it is a hoot and a half to watch them freak out over the new space…

Baxter wasn’t too impressed as he just laid around, half watching the chickens freak out, and mostly sleeping in the warm sun. (It was nice that day.)

I can’t wait to put seeds into the ground and see them come up. Until then there is hay on the garden to keep the weeds from coming back that I worked so hard to pull and “weed out” 😉 . Hope you have a great weekend!

And back again…

I know I just posted about the looks of spring coming to our area. I was looking forward to some nicer weather and the wind to not be so much of a bother.

But today I woke up to this… snow, cold, wind 😦 The ground, deck, and all were covered.

My flower beds were covered too and my poor budding flowers.

I guess old man winter is not ready to let go just yet. I hope it doesn’t keep my tulips and other flowers from blooming when spring does finally decide to stay. Weather says possibly more snow tonight. We shall see.

I Spy… Spring

A couple weeks ago or so it looked like this…

The boys were out playing in the snow…

And jumping on the logs that hubby has been splitting for fire wood…

It was a winter wonderland. And today….

There were blooms and buds everywhere…

The chickens were all over the place and loving the nicer weather…

And I have been enjoying their increase in egg production. Its not really “warm”, but defiantly not “cold”. Its hubbys kind of weather and we’ve been getting out in the yard getting things done. Happy for more “spring like” weather!

Fall brings Thankfulness

We have one tree out by the road that always is so pretty when it changes colors. We love this tree as it signals fall and is just pretty to look at.

It also reminds me that Thanksgiving is on it’s way and it helps me to remember what I am thankful for.

Even when it seems thing aren’t going your way, things could always be worse and there is always something to be thankful for.

My boys are ready and waiting for Thanksgiving. They tried on their bandanas and have picked out a prime spot to watch the family eat.

The boys are just two of the many things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving. Hope you are going to have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving, no matter what your plans are.

Wish… Deferred?

Have you ever had a wish or do you have a wish… a wish that is so deep down in your heart that you are afraid to say it out loud? A wish that you have wanted so bad and long that you stop saying it out loud and keep it buried inside. Something you have prayed for and hoped for that it seems impossible at times, but others times the hope pops up when you least expect it.

flower-wishbone

I have had a couple wishes like this and for a long time I moved between thinking I should give up and then times I know God can provide. Recently I have come upon the idea of thinking of these secret hopes and dreams as delayed. God can provide our hopes and dream when they are in line with his plan for our lives, even when they seem impossible… but sometimes I have figured out in the mean time there are things I can do to prepare or to improve during periods of wait.

Many times we may think of our unanswered dreams as a yes or no thing… but there is the “wait” option. And during the waiting time we can improve ourselves, our lives, our perspectives, our families, our faith. Its not always easy or fun, but it is possible and often it helps to have purpose during times of wait. It also may be just what we need to be doing to be our best when our dreams do come 🙂 Do you have secret hopes in your heart? How do you cope during periods of wait?

Flowers and Gardens

While we were on our overnight anniversary trip we went to a botanical gardens.

The outside path was lined with gardens with pretty flower spinners.

It was a pretty place and a lot of indoor displays, more then I had seen in other gardens like this.

Some had things in them.

Other’s were mostly flowers.

The had ones for kids. (you know I loved the one with the chicken 😉 )

Many of them had glass sculptures in them.

One was in a desert…

And the glass looked like a sun.

It was neat what someone can do with glass.

I love to look at flowers and find it very interesting how someone can create something so beautiful with different flowers.

And they were all beautiful.

Praying

Every time I hear of another terror attack, school shooting, shooting at a theater, music hall, or other place my heart gets sad. I just can’t stand the evil that’s out there.

Sunflowers

Right now I chose to join with those that are praying for Paris and I continue to pray for every person affected by any of these kind of events.

Encourage

I found a Bible verse the other day that was very encouraging and I thought I would share it with you today:

2 Samuel 22:31 –  As for God, his way is perfect, the word of the Lord proves true, he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

2 Dalias

I hope it encourages you today and helps you get though the end of your week 🙂

Chicken sick… poor girl

We have a sick chicken. I tried what the feed store lady suggested and only minimal improvement. The poor girl 😦 About a week ago I noticed her crown had slumped over and she was not as peppy. When I picked her up she was skinny and when I watched her I noticed her potty was runny. The feed store lady suggested goat dewormer and I had seen that suggested several times on Backyard chicken site. So we tried it and I see minimal difference.

Yellow dalia

So today I tried other things like checking for egg binding and crop impaction. I didn’t see she had either, but gave her a nice Epsom salt bath and gave her some mashed carrots that had crushed calcium and olive oil in it. I figured it wouldn’t hurt. She seemed to like the mixture and ate some of it. She took a nap and I saw she actually drank water. So now I am out of diagnosis and ideas… Any of you have any ideas? I can post pictures if that will help or give you more information if you want to know something specific. I just hate to see her sick. None of the other girls are sick so that is good 🙂 Thanks for any help you may have 😉

Chicken Flowers

Over the weekend hubby and I decided to have a yard sale. Our neighbor down the road decided to join us with some of her stuff. After things were cleaned up and the remainder of our stuff was donated and my neighbor had me come up to her place and she gave me some of her zinnia flowers and she gave me this really cool chicken pitcher. So I put them together for this great flower arrangement 🙂
