What is family?

As I thought about family this past Easter I was reminded that family is not just the one we are born into. It is the journey of the people the Lord brings into our lives.

Its those special people who treat you like they are blood relatives (and sometimes better) and you feel the same about them. Its about the relationships we develop with those we call friends, but sometimes are more like family.

As hubby and I still pray and hope to be able to have kids of our own, I know I still have an important job to do with each and every child I come in contact with. Its my job to be a good Godly role model for them. To treat them with love and kindness. To point them in the right direction and help them to feel special.

And in the process I get joy back and that warms my heart. I hope you had a blessed Easter.

Who wants some cake?

Happy Sunday Everyone 🙂

Hope your week has started out well and you are refreshed and ready for the week. I don’t know if I have blogged about this yet, but I have started to make cakes for my friends kids and the kids at church. I am trying to perfect my skills and learn new techniques. I have done many cakes including flower cakes….

And today I did a baseball cake for one of the boys at our church…

It’s been fun to figure out the kids likes and use their interests in a cake. They have all been a success so far and I have done many others. Each time I do a cake I figure out how to do it better the next time. I am working each time to perfect my skills. I hope I can keep getting better and keep making kids smile when they see their cakes. It is a joy 🙂

Happy 4th Birthday Chase!

Today Chase our youngest pup turns 4!

Chase smile

I can’t believe we have already had him for 4 years (well minus 3 months 😉 )

Chase snow

I wanted to make a list of all the things I love about Chase, but that would be one long blog. So I will focus on a few important ones.

Chase n the chicks

First he is a love bug 🙂 He always wants to be petted, loved on, kissed, and hugged. He always wants to be by your side.

Chase love

Second, he is such a happy pup. Always smiling and making you smile.

Chase face

Third he is a bundle of energy. It’s hard to sit still when he is up. From the moment he gets up until he naps or goes to bed he is on the go. Playing with his toys, playing fetch, running like a mad man all over the yard or house, or keeping a lookout for intruders from the front windows.

Chase run

Fourth, he loves every one he meets. He is anxious for attention, is a great host, and pays close attention to his guests needs.

Fifth, he loves to spend time with his family. Whether it is a ride in the truck, a family vacation, a hike in the woods, or a simple trip to the park. He is up for anything.

Finally, he sleeps in the cutest positions. Sometimes it’s all curled up in a ball on his bed, other times in sprawled out on the wood floor, but I love it when he sleeps with his head hanging over the chair.

So, Happy Birthday Chase, Mommy and Daddy love you 🙂

Why We Write

My online friend, Midwest Mary  (http://midwestmary.com/) asked me to continue a series on writing that is being passed from one writer to another. There are four basic questions you may find of interest if you are a writer or interested in the writing process.

Here are the questions and my answers:

1. What are you working on?

Right now I am taking a break from writing projects. I have started a couple children’s books about my dogs, but got writers block and life got very busy.
So for now I mostly work on this blog 🙂

2. What makes your work different from others’ work in the same genre?

Mine is from a very personal aspect, I write about my life, my animals, and what I love. Each persons life is unique in its own way so no ones blog is exactly like mine 😉

3. Why do you write what you do?

I really enjoy writing about things that happen in my life, get input from other’s, and start a conversation if I can. I originally started writing blog to keep a record of the days in mine and hubbys life for our kids. It was also to share with other’s what I love about my life, share my struggles (so other’s may not feel so alone in theirs), and especially share my faith in God. The children’s books I started as I love my dog a lot (if you follow my blog you know how much 😉 ) and I wanted to share their story in a lesson like way that kids can learn from.

4. How does your writing process work?

Two different ways usually for my blog…. the first is I take pictures of what hubby, the dogs, our other animals, etc. do and then write about them. The second is I think of something I want to write about and do the writing then find a photo to go with it.

For the children’s books, I just keep tabs on what the dogs do and then try to find a way to make it into a lesson to write about.

And now I tag two other writers that I choose to pass these questions to that I want to know more about and think you also will find of interest:

The first is my favorite blog and my close blogging friend Ann at http://feedyardfoodie.wordpress.com/ Since Hubby and I have such an interest in raising animals and good animal care, Ann’s posts always speak to me as well as educate me 🙂

The second is Mag’s Corner http://magscorner.wordpress.com/ I just love her photos, thoughts, and animals she rescues too (especially the pups 😉 )

New life…

My really great friend and best friend right now just had a new baby boy. I got to be at the birth and see him take his first breath. She had a home birth and I was blessed to be on her birth team. I didn’t do much besides provide support and then help a lot once he was out with getting him cleaned up, helping her though after birth pains, helping with the other kids, and cleaning up the house. My favorite part was a few moments I got alone with him when my friend needed to get a shower and be checked by the midwife and her hubby was busy putting the other kids to bed. Baby boy was just about 20 minutes old and just opening his eyes…

He is a precious and adorable little boy and I am excited to be “Auntie” to him and her other kids. When you can’t have kids of your own, its a blessing to be able to have a friend who is willing to share her kids with you and let you love on them 🙂 What a blessing to see a new life enter the world and be included in such a special event. 🙂

2 years…

I can’t believe I have been blogging for two years. I just received my notice from WordPress yesterday…
Happy Anniversary!

You registered on WordPress.com 2 years ago!

Thanks for flying with us. Keep up the good blogging!

I started my blog to have a place to share my life, my ideas, my animals, and keep track of life if we ever are blessed with kids. That way they can see where we started. In the past two years we have had ups and downs, trials and successes, joy and sorrow,  as everyone has had… I have grown as a person, a blogger, a friend, a daughter, a wife, and most importantly a daughter of the one true God 🙂 I think back to some of my first followers who I still “blog with”, and to the follows that I have gotten along the way, my “blogging friends”. I value their comments, ideas, and support on my own personal journey. I also enjoy checking in on their journeys along the way. so thank you to each one of you who follow me, “like” my blog, and post a comment. Each comment or “like” brings special happiness and lets me know there are people out there who do care, are kind, and are happy just to click a little button to let me know I am on the right path 🙂 Thanks to you all 🙂

Veteran

Today in the USA it is Veterans Day. This is a day we honor all the men and woman who have ever served as part of our military.  Today we want to personally thank any service member past or present who has put their lives on the line for my family and this country we live in. I have veterans in my family and I am proud of their service. Flags

Today we celebrated by visiting a veteran friend of ours. He is in his 80’s and was in WW-II. He shared with us about some of his experiences after the war and his bond with his “brother” from the war. We helped him cut some wood and he gave us some since we are low. I then went to visit a new mom friend of mine. She has 4 kids and is expecting her 5th. She needed some adult conversation and I entertained the kids some too. She is a sweet soul and I met her in the new church we have been going to for a couple months now. I send out a prayer for any military who are over seas right now or who are about to deploy for safety and strength for their families.  Blessing to them and their families. Happy Veterans Day!

Friends and Flowers

Sun shining, blue clouds, a nice breeze that kisses your cheek, and the rain holding off until our company left. It was a nice weekend… our friends came over on Saturday and we had a lovely dinner and conversation. They enjoyed watching the chickens peck at the food we threw out for them and my friends husband took quite a liking to Chase our younger dog. Baxter did some tricks to get some scraps of meat from our friend… what a ham 😉 I made some centerpieces like ones I saw in a magazine.4th flowersI think they came out nice… They did the trick as they were low enough to see over, but still provided color and something nice to look at during our meal. I used different flowers then the magazine and added only one flag. I found the flowers on sale and had the flags from last year. I hope they last this week as we are having more friends over for a cookout on Friday for the 4th. Since hubby works late on the 4th of July we will celebrate on Friday. I hope it will be a blessed week for you and those you love 🙂

Friendly Weekend

It is the weekend again. It was a mostly productive week and we got many things completed we needed to. The new roosts for the chickens are in, the front porch is done, the yard is mowed/trimmed…Yellow flower We are having some friends over for a cookout tomorrow and are looking forward to it 🙂 They are friends we have had for about 8 or so years. We are planning a nice spread, including our lovely ladies eggs for deviled eggs 🙂 I am sure the dogs will love it as they love visitors they know 🙂 I will keep it short and sweet and just say… Have a blessed and happy weekend 🙂
