Family Focus… White Christmas

Yesterday was WINDY… so much so we have had to take down some of our Christmas decorations outside and our table on the back porch almost flew off. The chickens are not allowed out as it would appear they may blow off. That put a little damper on yesterday as last night we had surprised my Grandmother and took her my mom and step-father to see White Christmas at the Kennedy Center.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA It was also a little more difficult as Friday my Grandmother fell out in front of the house and fractured her pelvis and sprained her shoulder so we were in the hospital most of the day. She is doing okay despite the injuries and using a walker to get around.  We have been planning this show for a long time so we just made the best of it 🙂 When things seem to get in the way… we just changed our plans to make the best of it. Things often don’t go as planed when more then two people are involved (or even just two), but when you focus on the family aspect. you can figure out how to make it work so the overall goal is obtained.

This weeks topic is LOVE 🙂

Some of my favorite things (from the past few weeks)…

I was looking over my photos I got downloaded and saw a few that made me happy so I thought I would share. So if you don’t know my birthday was a few weeks back and hubby took me to see War Horse at the Kennedy Center. I loved the ceilings of our theater…

I thought they look like the palace of a king and made me feel special on my birthday.

This past week was the American holiday Thanksgiving and I made a feast for my hubby, Dad, Mother/father in-law.

I know the turkey is missing but hubby was carving it while I took this photo. This year we carved it off the table and served it on a platter to reduce mess and make it easier for hubby. The meal was delicious according to the family and included many American traditional holiday things… green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, gravy, cranberry sauce, and stuffing (made my own with veggies and sausage)… and some of my creations garlic cheddar mashed potatoes and onion cheddar popovers 🙂  All gluten-free except the stuffing (but I know how to make gluten-free kind 😉 ).

Then for dessert gluten-free pumpkin pie and gluten-free chocolate peanut butter pie 🙂

Nothing fancy… just delicious and traditional 🙂

Finally we were out working in the yard and Chase was playing hide and seek with us… can you see him?

So I knew my 200th post was coming up and I have been waiting to find something good to post about. My lovely hubby suggested I wait until after my birthday weekend as he was taking me somewhere for the day as a surprise. He told me I would have some good photos after and he was right. Friday night he took me to the Kennedy Center to see War Horse (very good show) and then Saturday my mom and her husband came and joined us for my surprise… a day at the Washington DC Zoo.

I have two favorite animals Red Pandas…

And Otters… There were a lot of new cute new babby otters.

Baby Otters

There were a lot of animals out and I got to take a lot of photos (more to come). They have improved things at the zoo including more space for the animals and more educational things for the kids.

We even got to see the momma panda that just lost her cub. She was munching on some bamboo and seemed to be happy 🙂

They even had some meerkat babies too, but they were so fast and moving I couldn’t get a good photo except of the mom. My birthday time and weekend was great fun, smiles, and joy at getting to be at the zoo and relaxing. The Kennedy Center was enjoyable too… I am blessed to have a hubby and family who can plan things for my birthday that are things I love so much 🙂
