A Sunday Drive…

When I was a little girl my mom, dad, and I would always take Sunday drives. We would go all over the state and sometime to other states if time permitted. Sometimes our Sunday drives would happen on Saturdays if we wanted to drive too far, as usually Sunday we went to church. These are some of my favorite memories from my childhood.

When I met my husband he also had the same experience as a child so we decided to incorporate these “Sunday drives” into our relationship. We felt it was important to have this time and to keep them as part of our family traditions.  We really enjoy them and find it is really a time to connect, talk, and relax.

So today we took one of our drives after he got home from work. We drove into Maryland and I found a lot of photo opportunities. I thought I would share some.

First we went by this little church, I thought the stained glass windows and steeple were very neat.

On one of the back roads we had to put on our brakes rather quickly as a chicken almost ran out in front of us…

Then we found this little park we could walk the dogs along a stream.

Next we found some neat farms, barns, and fence lines.

Some cows were wondering what I doing... I think they thought I was a crazy lady taking pictures of their farm.

On the way home I saw some what looked like wooden crosses along side an old barn. I thought they were neat.

It was a nice day, despite the migraine I had, and I enjoyed the ride.

Do you have any family traditions you have carried over into your family now? Were you able to do any on those today?

Kids, Dogs, chickens, Birds, and exhaustion…

I spent the day watching my friends kids ages 2 and 7 months. For the purpose of this post we will call the 2-year-old little girl “L” and the 7 months old boy “M”. I was watching them so their mom and dad could get some things done. We started out the day collecting eggs (“L” then spent the day telling anyone who would listen “we got 5 eggs then I broke one, but it was an accident so it’s ok”).

Then we had play time inside and a little outside with the chickens until it got too cold and “M” got sleepy. “L” decided she would sit with Chase and keep him company while she waited for “M” to wake up.

He was having a nice nap untill Baxter and Chase decided to protect the house from a man running by and their barking woke him up. “L” and I were making a craft and “M” joined us untill we were though trying to eat all the craft material “L” was trying to use. We had some lunch and then “L” decided it was her nap time. It took a little while for her to go to sleep, but “M” was out like a light. I used this time to do laundry and clean the mirrors in the house.

The little spot of blue is "M" curled up asleep at his sisters feet (he had plenty of room it just doesn't look like it from this angle)

After a 3 hour nap for “M” and closer to a 2 hour nap for “L” my husband was home from work. When the kids woke up my husband let “L” help him fill the bird feeders and feed the chickens.

We then spent some time outside enjoying the sun that finally decided to come out and then it was inside to start dinner. “L” loves to help in the kitchen and is actually good for a 2-year-old.

Then their mom and dad came by for dinner (they brought the main course for dinner) and took “L” and “M” home.

It’s kind of quiet around the house without them here now. It makes me think of the day when my husband and I will be blessed with kids and wishful for these quiet nights… the only sounds are the frogs, crickets, dogs snoring, and the TV in the background. I know I will sleep well tonight.

I hope you all had as good of a day as I did and got a lot done. Anything special happen in your life today? I wish you all many blessings in the coming week.

Barn of the day and this day…

Another barn we found on our trip… I am currently with the kiddos I am watching for my friend and will post more on the adventures of the kiddos and dogs later. The chickens are in the yard and we have a couple more chickens laying now. The eggs are delicious 🙂

ATV’s and outdoors

I wanted to share something tonight I feel strongly about. We as humans benefit from being outdoors. It helps with mood, energy, spirit, and health. Kids especially need to be outdoors and play. It helps them with mood, energy, creativity, imagination play, social skills building, self-esteem building, and so much more.

I thought I would share with you one of my husbands and my favorite outdoor activities (as we have many). On our one year anniversary (many moons ago now it feels like) we decided to do an outdoors trip which included riding ATV’s through the mountains at an ATV park in Pennsylvania. We had a great time and always enjoy riding ATV’s.

This is me on an ATV in PA.

There were all sorts of trails to ride on from easy to super hard and we enjoyed most of the light to moderate trails (and a couple of the harder ones) as we felt since we don’t get to ride that often on trails like this it would be safest. It had been raining all day and we ended up covered from head to toe in mud (you may not be able to see it here, but we were). Even in the rain we had a blast and built memories that will last a long time.

This is my husband on the ATV.

This is another thing I love about the outdoors, the memories you can make. I hope you have outdoor plans for this weekend if your weather is nice. Even if it rains the puddles can be fun to jump in especially if you have little one… or even a pup or two 😉

Do you or you families have favorite outdoor activities? If so please share them with me 🙂

A visitor to our little farm…

Today we had visitors to our little part of the earth. Our friend and my husbands second cousin came over with her two kids. Her daughter loves our dogs and chickens and was so excited to see them.

She loves to pet them

She especially loved to feed them…

We feed the chickens.

She also wanted to play in the yard and was curious about the noises from the back field.

It was very windy today.

She was telling the dogs not to bother the chickens.

The dogs love having kids over so much they followed her where ever she goes…

Chase won't let her far from his sight.

Baxter shares a kiss.

We enjoyed our visitors today… I know the dogs and chickens did 🙂
