Who wants some cake?

Happy Sunday Everyone 🙂

Hope your week has started out well and you are refreshed and ready for the week. I don’t know if I have blogged about this yet, but I have started to make cakes for my friends kids and the kids at church. I am trying to perfect my skills and learn new techniques. I have done many cakes including flower cakes….

And today I did a baseball cake for one of the boys at our church…

It’s been fun to figure out the kids likes and use their interests in a cake. They have all been a success so far and I have done many others. Each time I do a cake I figure out how to do it better the next time. I am working each time to perfect my skills. I hope I can keep getting better and keep making kids smile when they see their cakes. It is a joy 🙂

New life…

My really great friend and best friend right now just had a new baby boy. I got to be at the birth and see him take his first breath. She had a home birth and I was blessed to be on her birth team. I didn’t do much besides provide support and then help a lot once he was out with getting him cleaned up, helping her though after birth pains, helping with the other kids, and cleaning up the house. My favorite part was a few moments I got alone with him when my friend needed to get a shower and be checked by the midwife and her hubby was busy putting the other kids to bed. Baby boy was just about 20 minutes old and just opening his eyes…

He is a precious and adorable little boy and I am excited to be “Auntie” to him and her other kids. When you can’t have kids of your own, its a blessing to be able to have a friend who is willing to share her kids with you and let you love on them 🙂 What a blessing to see a new life enter the world and be included in such a special event. 🙂

Family focus on a busy day…

I thought during focus on the family week I would share some things hubby and I do when things are busy to get family time in. Whether you have kids or not family time is important for families and mariages 🙂 Hands

A few things we do when busy to keep up with family time:

1. Family dinners- almost every night we sit down together (some nights its in the car) and talk as we eat.

Easter Dinner

2. Bible study- we try to read a short bible study and out of the Bible nightly before we go to sleep. (image credit google images)Bible rings

3. Play with the dogs before dinner- each day we try to make sure to give the dogs a little love before bed whether that be a 2 minute belly rub or short game of indoor fetch down the hallway. Dogs

4. Cooking together- we try to share cooking and clean up duty- you are doing something, but can also talk and communicate.

5. When we have kidos over we try to keep the TV off and let them help us with cooking, cleaning, etc and make sure if they are staying with us for the night that they always get a bed time story.Micah

6. Dream-  It may seem wierd but we try to do something like look for properties (land) online we would like to have as or farm and talk about what we would do with that land.

Any things you do as a family to keep up with family time when things get busy?

Sadness in the week of kindness…

So this week was supposed to be about kindness and what we can do to show kindness…. But tonight I am full of sadness after the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT shooting. My mind is spinning once again and I am moved to tears after hearing all of those little kids and teachers who lost their lives at the hands of a young 20 year-old person who for an unknown reason took other’s lives in his own hands and felt he had the right to do what he did. I feel sad for the families who lost their child or children. After going through all we have and not being blessed with a child yet, I can not imagine loosing my child… thinking of it makes me cry more. If you know anyone affected by this you are in my prayers and so are the families of those 600-some kids and the staff of that school.

Still as I watch the news and all the special reports on this tragedy… I see kindness in the way people support each other, the way the first responders act/speak/lead… God bless.

Gratitude in giving…

Tonight I got to give a little girl just what she asked for this Christmas…. a horse 🙂

 Leigh

She was very happy and hubby and I were happy to give her what she wanted 🙂 Sometimes giving provides the best kind of gratitude 🙂 Isn’t that what this season is suppose to be about. God gave to us so we can give to others. In turn we can be greatful for what we have. I hope you have enjoyed this weeks posts on Gratitude… will be moving on to another Christmas value/feeling tomorrow 🙂

Signs of Smiles :)

It smells like fall finally. 🙂 On my way home tonight I had my windows down and I smelled the leave and all the scents of fall. It was so nice after a long day.

Fall just starting…

There are certain things that make me happy when I see them or smell them… the smell of fall, cookies baking,  a butterfly, a rainbow, a bible, my dogs, and kiddos  are in that long list.

So when I get to smile at kids and dogs after a long day it does the heart good… I took these on Monday while watching kiddos for my friend. I love these kids and my pups 😉

Thought…

If a cat could be deep in thought I think this is what it would look like…

This is my friends cat (the cat of those precious kids you have seen in my posts). I just like the way the cat is looking out the window at the world. I wonder what he is thinking?

Mommy Play

So this past holiday weekend I got the privilege to watch these two cuties while their mom and dad were out-of-town…

We spent our time at the zoo, playing with the dogs and chickens, and reading. I got a little more practice playing mom with a 48 hour shift.

The kids feeding the animals at the zoo

Their puppy Lester also came along to be watched. Baxter and Chase had to learn how to share their house and people with another dog.

Baxter and Chase were starting to get used to him when they left. Now that my house is quiet and calm, it’s a little sad and almost too quiet.

Keeping busy…

The weekend is here and I have a busy one planed…

Today and tomorrow I am helping a friend (a cousin of hubbys) move into their new place. I am so excited to have a friend closer and I adore her kids (they have been featured in my posts before). Saturday morning before I go to help her finish unpacking I have to clean for the elderly couple I help once a month. Sunday it is church then to my friends to help set up for her one year olds birthday party (and to help put away any last-minute things from the move). I volunteered to take pictures at the party so she could enjoy this time with her little boy.

Next week is going to be a long and stressful one, but I will make it though… I have faith. Hope you all have a blessed weekend. 🙂

Beauty in the sky and words…

It’s a beautiful night. Baxter had his therapy dog event today and did well, as usual. He loves kids and they love him. I hope you had a blessed week as it comes to a close…. I have received many beautiful comments this week and appreciate them all. I will leave you with a verse that has come to me as I have thought about these comments…

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youth grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.- Isaiah 40:29-31
