Whites Ferry

Have you ever been on a cable operated ferry… if you have been to Whites Ferry then you have 🙂OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A few weeks back my mom, step-father, and I went on this neat little ferry in Maryland.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It starts out on one side of the water…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The cars load up… I think it holds 15 cars at a time…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It then starts across towards you…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It gets closer and closer…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You can really start to see the cable the closer it comes…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The cable pulling the ferry through the water is interesting to watch…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You see the cable tightening as the ferry comes closer…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then the ferry is almost on your side…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then all the cars load up…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And you start back the other way…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You get a nice 2-3 minute ride…

This past weekend we went to the fair. I have a lot of photos so I am breaking them up and will share a different aspect of the fair with you each day this week. So today is the display buildings of the fair for your enjoyment… (But I have to start with the best ride of the fair)…Ferris wheel

My favorite section was all the canning jars lined up on display with lots of goodies in them…Canning

There were so many they had two different sections….Canning more

They also had a lot of produce like this corn on display….baby corn

It inspired me to keep up with my gardening 🙂

They also had may beautiful quilts…Quilt

Which was my mom’s favorite section… Quilts

There was a lot of good stuff to see and more to come. 🙂

Polly wants a cracker…

More from the wildlife park adventures… my favorite the parrots. I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday 🙂

Wall art…

Happy Thursday 🙂 How has your week been? I wanted to say Hi to my new followers and thank you all for following and visiting my posts. I was not sure when I started my blog a couple of months ago if I would even get one follower or if anyone would be interested in what I had to say. I am happy to have found so many fellow bloggers with the same interests and ideas as I have had. So again thank you…

In our recent travels and drives I had noticed more and more buildings are using art as a way to draw attention or dress up their walls. I have seen some really cool art and thought I would share some today. Some of these places are near us in Virginia and other I have found in Maryland and even on our trip to Nebraska. I always wonder who the artist’s are as I usually look for names on the walls, but have had no success in finding any. Have a happy Thursday 🙂

Have a "sunshine day"...
(Can you guess what January 26, 1973 show made this song popular)

Scrapping adventure

My husband has a hobby to earn us a little extra money, scrapping. He gets things from people who need to get rid of them and we take it to the local scrapyard to be melted down. We don’t get a full load often and so these trips have been few and far between, but we can use the extra money for those unexpected house, car, gas expenses, etc. I road along yesterday as I still was not feeling well and the ride usually helps. On the way home we got a bite to eat and stopped by the park to eat and let the dogs run.

Chase (in front) and Baxter

The wind was blowing all around and had some flags at attention…

In a little town I saw this blue bike next to a local post office. I thought it was such a cool use of art.

I also liked this painting on a wall near the post office. It reminded me of Italy when  was there.

We then traveled a back road home… over the bridge and through the woods…

It was a nice day, but cool with the wind blowing. I know the dogs had a good day as they slept all night and were not as hyper this morning. It was such a blessing to have two nice days to take rides. I hope today my migraine will stay away 😉

A Sunday Drive…

When I was a little girl my mom, dad, and I would always take Sunday drives. We would go all over the state and sometime to other states if time permitted. Sometimes our Sunday drives would happen on Saturdays if we wanted to drive too far, as usually Sunday we went to church. These are some of my favorite memories from my childhood.

When I met my husband he also had the same experience as a child so we decided to incorporate these “Sunday drives” into our relationship. We felt it was important to have this time and to keep them as part of our family traditions.  We really enjoy them and find it is really a time to connect, talk, and relax.

So today we took one of our drives after he got home from work. We drove into Maryland and I found a lot of photo opportunities. I thought I would share some.

First we went by this little church, I thought the stained glass windows and steeple were very neat.

On one of the back roads we had to put on our brakes rather quickly as a chicken almost ran out in front of us…

Then we found this little park we could walk the dogs along a stream.

Next we found some neat farms, barns, and fence lines.

Some cows were wondering what I doing... I think they thought I was a crazy lady taking pictures of their farm.

On the way home I saw some what looked like wooden crosses along side an old barn. I thought they were neat.

It was a nice day, despite the migraine I had, and I enjoyed the ride.

Do you have any family traditions you have carried over into your family now? Were you able to do any on those today?

Last Day of Vacation…

Today we spent some of our last day of vacation in the…

Town of Sharpsburg

We went over to Antietam Battle Field to walk the dogs…

We go to the battle field from time to time to walk the dogs and relax. Chase always has a good time watching mommy take pictures…

I saw a bird house on one of the fences… it looked like it was occupied. The birds are really out the last few days.

The sun went in and out of the clouds, but I still got some good pictures and it was a nice walk.

Burnside Bridge

On the way home I saw a house/farm I love…

I also loved the sky when the sun finally came through…

Another day done and more to come… What did you get to do today?
