The grass is back, the tress are coming out, the flowers are blooming, and the chickens are happy.

Yet its either hot and humid or were having thunder storms and tornado warnings… I am not sure what season to call this, its not spring, or summer… I think I will just call it crazy!

My families thoughts and prayers continue to be with those in Texas and Louisiana affected by the hurricane. We have also added the people of Florida to this list.

I have family down there including my dad who is on his way back up here. As some of you know who have been following my blog for a while, my dad is paralyzed from below the chest. He finally agreed to leave so he could be safe. We pray if you know people down there they left and are safe as well. Thoughts and prayer with Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and any other states that may be impacted by these horrible hurricanes and the tornados happening because of them.

Prayers being sent to the people of Texas who have been affected by this terrible flooding…

Praying you are safe and if you have family down there that your family is safe. And thank you to all those who are able to go down and are there helping in any way they can. Praying for your safety as well.

Our youngest chicks are now a month old and we have taken them out a couple times into the yard in a protected area for some grass play time when it is warm enough.

Their play time was cut short today by a thunderstorm, but they seemed to enjoy the time they had.

They had been playing out of their pen under a heat lamp inside for a while now. But we really like them to get used to the outside if it is the right temperature and safe for them.

If they had been hatched here their mama would care for them and keep them safe. But without a mama bird we have to do things a little different.

We use a Tarter big burn ring to keep them corralled and put fencing over it so they don’t get out but can experience the sun and air.

We are in the process of getting our almost 3 month old chicks used to outside all day and the big girls used to them. Slowly getting their day time pen closer to the big girls. In the next 2-4 weeks we hope to have them outside full time and the other chickens accepting them into the flock. (Hopefully closer to 2 weeks 😉 )

Wish us luck with all these girl. This is the hard part, getting the old girls to accept the new ones. As well as getting rid of this rooster and the others in his group getting used to being without him. At least we have a trusty dog to help manage when they get a little out of hand 😉

That last eastern snow storm got us Monday night into Tuesday.

Since we knew it was coming our way we did prep work around our place. Secured the chickens and got a couple flock blocks set up plus extra water, covered up the tractors, moved the generator, and filled up the bird feeders as we like to provide a spot for the birds in the snow to get food.

There were quite a few birds that showed up…

All three boys liked watching the birds, the two pups from the door and little Grayson from the window…

We also enjoy watching them. You see a hierarchy just like you do with the chickens… interesting to watch.

I also like to see the little birds find ways to get to the good food and fool the bigger birds.

Provides some good entertainment on a snowy day.

If you got this snow I hope you stayed safe and warm. I was lucky this time, hubby did the shoveling and snow blowing and I got to be inside cooking and baking. I think I got the better part of the deal 😉

A couple weeks ago or so it looked like this…

The boys were out playing in the snow…

And jumping on the logs that hubby has been splitting for fire wood…

It was a winter wonderland. And today….

There were blooms and buds everywhere…

Pretty little flowers…

Of many colors…

Buds pushing through for daffodils…

So many flowers coming through the ground…

The chickens were all over the place and loving the nicer weather…

And I have been enjoying their increase in egg production. Its not really “warm”, but defiantly not “cold”. Its hubbys kind of weather and we’ve been getting out in the yard getting things done. Happy for more “spring like” weather!

It must be at least getting a little close to spring (or it may be wishful thinking)…. but everywhere we went today there were baby animals running about…

It may just me willing spring here and using these babes as my proof…

Either way they are all cute when they are little 🙂

It was just nice to have a couple nice days of weather and be outside without freezing or having the wind knock me over. Hope your week has started out well!

We had our first snow… it was so pretty.

It started last night and went through early this morning.

After work today I took the boys out to play and enjoy the snow.

Baxter has new boots as he is getting older and he gets colder quicker then he used to. At first he wasn’t sure of them, but then he got used to traipsing about with them on.

Chase is a big lover of snow and he loves to race about and see how fast he can go then stop quickly and turn to race the other way.

I love to take the boys out and let them play. They are now resting and recharging for more play time in the snow tomorrow.

It is so hot again… so hot I want to crawl into an ice bath. On top of the heat our AC went out yesterday and it’s not fixed yet. To keep cool we have al the fans going, extra floor fans on, were going for rides with the boys in the car with the AC going, and opening widows around the house where the sun isn’t shining in to increase air flow.

This evening it is finally cooling and Grayson has been finding a way to stay cool…

He has loved hanging out in the windows. We have found him in different windows depending on the sun. I think its not only the air flow, but he has loved hearing and seeing different animals and bugs go by.

They say the coming week we are supposed to be in the 80’s again so hopefully that will help. When you don’t have AC or a commodity like it… makes you very grateful for it. Praying its fixed soon. Hope the weather is nice in your neck of the woods 🙂

There are many things you can say about snow… its cold, its wet, its messy, its too deep, its too hard to see when it gets going good… You could say all these things, but why not also see the positives? Why not see the beauty? In our recent 3 feet of snow I could have seen many negatives and at times I think the biggest negative was being sore from digging out, but looking at the picture below I see something else…

I see the beauty in the snow falling softly. I see the birds using the snow as cover to come to the feeders and eat. I see quiet in the middle of a busy world (yes I know you hear quiet, but I can remember the quiet from this picture). I see the trees holding up all the snow powerful and strong. I see a beauty that is not in our world at other times. Snow can be calming, it can be relaxing, it can relieve stress, it can stop a world that is always to busy, to stressful, and to overworked. It reminds us and sometimes makes us slow down and remember that in this world where we live, we need to actually live. This snow gave hubby and I time to do a little living… living by loving on our pets, spending time together, getting some things done for us, taking some time to really rest without worrying about what was not getting done, watching the snow fall so peacefully at times we couldn’t help but to sigh and let ourselves relax. Snow can give you a different perspective and a different view of your own world.
“And the peace of God, which transends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”
-Philippians 4:7
