Happy Summer Weekend!

We had a couple of nice weather day’s this week, a couple of rainy and stormy days, and a couple of hot days. The dogs were happy to go out on the nice days and as always Chase was out with us even when it was hot. We got some more chores done around the property and started on some inside things that need to get done. Inside chores are best done during the hot parts of the day.

Polar Bear show

The heat reminded me of the polar bear above, that we saw at the Zoo in Louisville, KY when we took our trip in May. It was a hot day and he was just having so much fun jumping in the water and swimming all over his enclosure. It was like he was putting on a show for everyone and the more “awwww’s” and “wow’s” he got the better his show got. And he really seemed to enjoy the nice cool water to take his swim in.

Hope you are having a nice summer and getting to take a cool dip when you need to so you can cool off from this summer heat 😉

Louisville Zoo…

While on our trip we did a lot of driving to check out land and new places. We also had a day of fun and went to Louisville to the Sluggers Museum and the zoo. I took a lot of photos at the zoo and thought I would share some with you today 🙂

There were tigers…

Tiger

And Lions…

Lion

And polar bears… oh my… and this particular polar bear liked to put on a show for the crowd by jumping off a rock. Only this polar bear didn’t just climb on the rock and jump… he would act like he was going to jump then not… once… twice…

Then on the third time he would finally jump…

And make a big splash…

The rhino’s were up for some good photos…

Ant then these eagles were in an open areas. I guess they couldn’t fly anymore so there was no concern of them escaping so they didn’t need a cage…

It was a nice zoo and a beautiful day to be at the zoo 🙂

Otter Be Friday

Our Zoo tour continues with one of my two favorite animals… The Otter 🙂

They are so cute and friendly and when I was little I imagined swimming with the otters and being like them. They are so graceful and fast in the water and I have always been fascinated by them. At the DC zoo there are two kinds of otters…

The first I think are Asian otters who just had babies…

And American otters…

I love all otters and maybe one day will get to be a zoo keeper for a day and spend time with them 🙂

Any plans for the weekend? Here in our piece of the world we are getting ready for the holidays and family to arrive Sunday. So that means cleaning, shopping for groceries, cooking, and baking. I hope you have a blessed weekend and wonderful start to the holiday season 🙂

Eye of the Tiger

This was one of the beautiful new tigers at the DC Zoo. We were told he is a new guy and when he was first there they closed off the area so he could get accustomed to his new surroundings. At first he was just sleeping, but then he got up and gave us a show.  He went prowling around and talking to the lions in the next enclosure…

Then he played with a log…

And played some more…

Then talked some more…

It was neat to see such a powerful animal talking, playing, and observing…

Zoobalicious

So I knew my 200th post was coming up and I have been waiting to find something good to post about. My lovely hubby suggested I wait until after my birthday weekend as he was taking me somewhere for the day as a surprise. He told me I would have some good photos after and he was right. Friday night he took me to the Kennedy Center to see War Horse (very good show) and then Saturday my mom and her husband came and joined us for my surprise… a day at the Washington DC Zoo.

I have two favorite animals Red Pandas…

And Otters… There were a lot of new cute new babby otters.

Baby Otters

There were a lot of animals out and I got to take a lot of photos (more to come). They have improved things at the zoo including more space for the animals and more educational things for the kids.

We even got to see the momma panda that just lost her cub. She was munching on some bamboo and seemed to be happy 🙂

They even had some meerkat babies too, but they were so fast and moving I couldn’t get a good photo except of the mom. My birthday time and weekend was great fun, smiles, and joy at getting to be at the zoo and relaxing. The Kennedy Center was enjoyable too… I am blessed to have a hubby and family who can plan things for my birthday that are things I love so much 🙂

Mommy Play

So this past holiday weekend I got the privilege to watch these two cuties while their mom and dad were out-of-town…

We spent our time at the zoo, playing with the dogs and chickens, and reading. I got a little more practice playing mom with a 48 hour shift.

The kids feeding the animals at the zoo

Their puppy Lester also came along to be watched. Baxter and Chase had to learn how to share their house and people with another dog.

Baxter and Chase were starting to get used to him when they left. Now that my house is quiet and calm, it’s a little sad and almost too quiet.

Looking Back….

I was going though some old photos after my trip and came across these from the zoo in Nebraska we visited when we were out there in March for my Grandmother’s 80th birthday. There are some amazing animals there and this one tiger was very special.

It said he was hurt and had to lose his one leg, but has adapted and recovered well. The only issue I have with any zoo is some animals don’t seem to have enough room to roam, run, play. I know most zoos rotate which animals are outside in the free space and which ones are in the smaller spaces. It just makes me sad to not see them all in big spaces, but I guess that for some animals it’s better than the alternative and this zoo does have big outdoor spaces 🙂

There was also this one really funny ape that was playing with these stalks that look like paper streamers. He kept hiding under them then scaring the other apes as they passed or he would throw them up in the air and let them land on him. It was quite funny to watch and everyone was laughing so much. Funny how animals entertain themselves and us.

Well it is the start to another work week and I am already tired 😉 Hope this week goes smoothly for you all 🙂 Blessings 🙂

Lions and Tigers and Bears… oh my!

Its here fellow bloggers and followers… my 100th post. I have not posted for the last couple of days as I was waiting for the perfect thing to blog about to make it a great 100th post. I think I have it… my day at the wildlife park 🙂 So here we go on an adventure through the park… won’t you join me?

This poor tiger only had one eye, but seemed to do just fine. It’s amazing how humans and animals are alike in their ability to adapt.

And finally the slowest, but one who can win the race…

I hope you have enjoyed our little adventure into the wild. I know I did… Have a beautiful and wild week 😉
